Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
