Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Response

The manager highlighted familiar failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with performances this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
