At least 36,000 Sudanese citizens have fled after capture of El Fasher to Rapid Support Forces, states UN agency

More than 36,000 individuals have fled Sudan's Kordofan region eastern part of Darfur starting Saturday, as stated by the UN's immigration body.

The key central region separating the country's Darfur areas and the capital region has in recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the extended civil war between the Sudanese armed forces and the militia group.

Significant Evacuation Statistics

An approximated 36,825 people fled five areas in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, primarily walking, moved toward Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently housing more than 652,000 displaced people.

Heightened Forces Deployment

Citizens of North Kordofan on Monday described a substantial rise in both RSF and army presence across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both forces are vying for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a important strategic and command base that connects Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently circulated video message.

Area Inhabitants Describe Security Concerns

A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the number of RSF vehicles had grown significantly since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We stopped going to our farms, fearing confrontations," the individual stated.

Another resident, who requested anonymity for protection purposes, also reported that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

World Alarms and Calls

A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnic-based retaliations" by RSF in Bara.

The diplomat alerted to patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.

The church leader on Sunday called for an prompt truce and the opening of aid passageways in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday alleged RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the militia organization.

The representative further called on the world nations to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.
