Blasts and Low-Altitude Aircraft Reported in Venezuela's Capital City Caracas

Witness testimonies circulated of numerous explosions and the noise of low-altitude planes in the Venezuelan capital in the early hours of Saturday morning. This incident has led to claims from Venezuela's leadership and calls for global intervention.

Venezuela Blames US of Aggression

Venezuela's socialist administration has accused the US of an act of "foreign aggression," claiming that former President Trump reportedly ordered military strikes against the Latin American state. In an official statement, the government confirmed that attacks had targeted the capital and several other provinces: Miranda state, La Guaira, and Aragua.

"Our sole aim of these strikes is to take control of our nation's strategic resources, especially its oil and mineral wealth," the government said.

Caracas appealed to the global community to censure the actions, which it termed a "clear infringement of international norms" that endangered millions of civilians in peril.

Accounts of Explosions and Military Bases Targeted

Locals spoke of hearing at least several explosions around 2 a.m. in the morning. People in different neighborhoods reportedly rushed into the open.

"The whole ground shook. This is horrible. We heard explosions and planes in the sky," commented one local.

Black smoke was seen rising from key military installations in Caracas: the La Carlota air base and the Fuerte Tiuna military base, where leader Maduro is believed to have a residence.

International Condemnation

The president of neighboring Colombia, claimed on social media that "Currently they are attacking Venezuela... attacking it with missiles." He called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.

The Colombian government, which just became a member of the UNSC, stated it would initiate security measures at its border with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

These alleged strikes come after a extended campaign of pressure by the United States against the Venezuelan regime. Beginning in last summer, there has been a major US military deployment off the country's northern coast and a series of air strikes on boats accused of illegal activities.

Venezuela's administration has announced "the implementation of emergency" and directed all defense protocols to be implemented. It has also urged its political forces to take to the streets and "denounce this foreign aggression."

US authorities and the Defense Department did not publicly addressed inquiries for comment regarding the reports.
