A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to support Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a group of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The song blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
