The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.
