The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
